Indications

Respiratory
• infections associated with copious mucous, bronchial constriction and spasmodic cough
- colds
- bronchitis
- pneumonia
- croup
- pertussis

Gastrointestinal
• digestive complaints with bloating and gas causng cramps:
- flatulence
- colic
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
halitosis (mouth wash)

Infection
• viral infections
• bacterial infections
• fungal infections (dermatophytes, cadidiasis)
• parasitic infections

Actions

expectorant
antitussive
antispasmodic
antimicrobial
antiseptic
carminative
antiinflammatory

Constituents

• Essential oils
• Monoterpenes (thymol, carvacrol)
• Flavonoids
• Resins

Posology

• Tincture (1:5 in 45% EtOH): 2-4 ml tid
• Infusion (dry herb): 1-2 tsp tid
• Essential oil: 1-10 gtts (diluted)

Safety

Generally considered safe when used as indicated.

Pregnancy: Use with caution. May act as a mild uterine stimulant.
