Indications

Used in ayurvedic medicine to treat arthritic pain. Used to treat various inflammatory processes by inhibiting leukotrienes.

Musculoskeletal
• rheumatic conditions
- osteoarthritis (OA)
- rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- chronic back pain
tendonitis

Gastrointestinal
• inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- ulcerative colitis

Respiratory
• chronic inflammatory respiratory complaints
- asthma

Actions

antirheumatic

antiseptic

Constituents

• Triterpenoids (e.g. boswellic acid)
• Volatile oil

Posology

Decoction & Infusion: Ineffective due to non-polar resins.
Extracts (gum resin): 300-350 mg tid

Note: acute rheumatoid arthritis - may use higher doese, e.g. 3 g, qd.
